FountainCraft
FountainCraft is Fountain's community Minecraft network.
It houses two servers at present, a vanilla-style survival server and a standard-generation creative mode server. It is open to all members of the Fountain community, and friends-on-friends on a vouch basis. Members are able to join on both Java and Bedrock game versions. The server is very relaxed on rules, and follows a similar "vibe" to the Discord community.
Joining the server
Before joining the server, you must first be "whitelisted". This process is in place to deter bad actors from disrupting the game experience. If you are within Fountain, this can be achieved by pinging @its_notjack on Discord. Players outside of the community must ask a member within the community to "vouch" for them to @its_notjack on Discord, and this member will be responsible for the player's actions within the server.
Java edition
Join the server using the IP address mc.mawer.uk
. You should be able to join with any game version newer than 1.12.2.
Bedrock edition
If you have a Java edition account, you should first link your Java account to your Bedrock account at the following link: https://link.geysermc.org/method/online
This allows you to share your inventory and player data between editions of the game.
If you do not have a Java account, you are of course free to join the server with your bedrock account.
Add Xbox user "jackmawer" as a friend, and notify @its_notjack on Discord that you have done so, so that this can be accepted. After this, you should find a listing for the server in the "Friends" tab on your device.
Playing on the server
Across both servers, there are a few convenient commands which you may find useful. You can use these by typing them into the ingame text chat.
/help
- Provides you with a useful list of ingame commands, some of which may not be listed here |/server
- Allows you to switch between servers on the network (e.g./server creative
)/list
- Provides you with a list of online players, and the respective servers they are connected to within the network/sit
,/lay
,/crawl
- Allows you to sit, lie down, or begin crawling on your current position. You can also "piggy-back" on a player by right-clicking on them with an empty hand./spawn
- After a delay, returns you to the initial spawnpoint of the world (useful in case you find yourself hopelessly lost or stuck) There are also a couple of commands that are exclusive to the creative server:/ptime
- The creative server time is set to the real time outside by default. You can override this visually for yourself only by using the ptime command (e.g./ptime day
)/sethome
,/home
- Allow you to save locations which you can later teleport back to.
Archival and preservation
A long-standing goal for the server network is one of preservation - the hope is that players can return after a period of time away and find that their creations have remained even as futher play occurs around them. With this in mind, world resets and modifications are strongly avoided. The current world reset policy is as below:
- Survival: When a Minecraft update adds new content, biomes or mobs, the world will be "pruned" - this means that any chunks which have been occupied by a player for a total of less than 5 minutes will be erased - no chunks with significant construction through normal gameplay are likely to be removed by this process. If you are concerned about this policy, contact @its_notjack.
- Creative: There are currently no provisions for world resetting in the creative world, as new Minecraft biomes and structures are considered unimportant next to the importance of preserving creative builds. Any change to this policy will be communicated as far in advance as practical.
Land Ownership
There is no specific claims system on the server. The expectationis that players will communicate with each other in a mature manner about any land disputes. Failing this, the following rules apply:
- Initially, land is deemed to be owned by any player(s) who has/have made significant construction on the land. Multiple players may at once have ownership of land, and it is expected that all members have approval sought before any further construction is made.
- If nobody has made significant contributions to land, then ownership belongs to whoever has made a clear claim to the land.
- If neither of the above apply, the land is free to be claimed and used.
- If a person has left a space of land empty for an extended period of time, and repeated attempts to contact them have failed, players MAY build new structures in the area. Players MUST NOT destroy existing structures under any circumstances without express approval from @its_notjack. These rules are intentionally vague, to allow flexibility in a case-by-case basis. Final word on all disputes lies with @its_notjack via Discord.
If in a land dispute a structure must be removed from its current location, the following applies:
- If it is possible and practical to do so, the "losing" player may choose to have their structure relocated to a different area.
- Otherwise, the "losing" player is entitled to a refund of materials and items from the removed structure, where it is possible and practical to provide this.
If you have any doubt about these rules, your first point of contact should be the player who appears to visibly own or have claimed the area. If you need help determining this, or if this does not resulve your query, contact @its_notjack via Discord.
A player is upsetting me or has caused damage to structures in the server
As a group of adults, the expectation is that you first make contact with the player in question, explain your position and talk it out. The player might not have realised their actions were damaging or hurtful, and you may come to an amicable resolution on your own.
Appreciating that this is not always the case, your second port of call should be @its_notjack on Discord, who will contact both sides and determine a resolution as fairly as possible.
Discord Integration
To allow members to interact with and keep tabs on the server even in areas where they can't join the game directly, server chat is synchronized to several Discord servers, including the Fountain discord.
Please be aware that messages you post are stored and visible to other members, even those not currently ingame. Do not share personal or sensitive information in the ingame chat!
